Brutalist building sees new life as net-zero hotel
The former Pirelli Tire Building in New Haven, Conn., will soon reopen as a solar-powered, net-zero building dubbed Hotel Marcel in honor of the modernist architect Marcel Breuer. The repurposed Brutalist structure, which had been abandoned for 20 years, makes a “heroic showing of its cantilever” while showcasing a “beautiful precast concrete material,” says architect-developer Bruce Redman Becker.
