Swiss International auctions economy seats for charity

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) is currently installing premium economy class on its Boeing 777-300ER fleet, which requires a few rows of economy class seats to be removed to create the necessary cabin space. These economy class seats are now surplus to requirements so the airline is teaming up with Ricardo, an online auction house, to sell the seats, with auction proceeds being donated to charity.

Over the next four weeks, triple seats, as well as various other surplus cabin items, will be sold on Ricardo to the highest bidders. All proceeds from the auction sales will be donated by SWISS to the Pigna Foundation, the airline’s long-standing charity partner. Pigna Foundation, based in Kloten, offers people with disabilities a place to live and work, along with care and support that is tailored to their needs. The work opportunities at Pigna include reprocessing the reusable headphones that are provided for travellers on SWISS flights.
