Santa Barbara, Calif., housing chief seeks hotel tax share

The surging hotel industry in Santa Barbara, Calif., has brought calls from the city’s housing authority director to steer some of the higher-than-expected lodging tax revenue to affordable dwellings. Rob Fredericks says he would support bringing a bed tax increase before the voters for a community that’s under state mandate to add 8,000 housing units for moderate-income residents.
