STG Aerospace supports Delta’s A330 cabin lighting refresh
As part of a major cabin upgrade programme to harmonise the interiors of its fleet of 42 Airbus A330s with its newly delivered A330-900neos, Delta Air Lines has deployed STG Aerospace’s liTeMood LED cabin lighting system onboard its A330-200s and -300s.
STG has worked with Delta’s team to create unique lighting profiles and scenes, including the Delta signature blue, and modes that helps compensate for jet lag and fatigue.
Pierre Michard, business unit director at STG Aerospace said of the contract, “We’re delighted Delta Air Lines, the largest airline group in the world, installed STG LED lighting upgrade for one of its major fleets. Having supported their team for the upgrade of their Boeing 757-300 fleet in 2019, we thoroughly enjoyed working with them during the A330 retrofit campaign – the largest of its kind in STG’s history – to replicate the lighting in the latest delivered fleets and harmonise the cabins of Delta’s existing A330s with their latest A330-900neo fleet.”
Throughout the programme, STG Aerospace provided customer support with a dedicated project manager, in-country support from the company’s Miami base, and a project team including certification and all operations functions. The pandemic did not affect service levels, as STG flew its project manager to support installation in El Salvador in July 2021 to keep the programme on schedule.
Three unveilings at AIX
In other news at STG Aerospace, the company showcased three developments at this year’s Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX): a new emergency floor path marking system, the Universal Lighting concept, and an emergency exit system for business jets.
The emergency floor path marking system, named saf-Tglo SSUL-X11, is designed to be particularly narrow and lightweight, extending the existing SSUL-X range to its narrowest width yet – 11mm (he previous narrowest width was 18mm). STG says this new option can make a big difference to cabin aesthetics and blend into the cabin design, while maintaining all passenger safety requirements. It is EASA approved.
Meanwhile, drawing on its experience of upgrading cabin lighting on Airbus and Boeing aircraft, STG launched a platform-agnostic Universal Lighting capability. This system is designed to enable airlines to offer a more personalised experience to passengers, with a full integration of the latest databus standards, and to bring the widebody experience to narrowbody long-haul operations.
The company also unveiled an emergency exit system package for business jets and small fixed-wing aircraft (CS23). It is intended to give more choice in how to meet the regulated requirements for passenger emergency exit systems, while providing full customisation options. Using STG PatternMatch technology, the daytime colour and pattern of the wall or floor can be matched, be it signage or floor path marking. The system can match wood, leather, flooring vinyl and carpet. STG says that the safety guidance system is then hidden until needed.
The solution is self-illuminating, with no wiring, batteries or power consumption required. It features automatic activation so no switch is needed: it just illuminates when needed. STG says it is suitable for applications including progression signs, CS23 exit locators, operation instruction placards and window exit markers. The system is available in a green or blue glow option and is EASA approved.
