Vermont moves to lengthier hotel plan for homeless

Vermont will modify a pandemic-era program that used hotels and motels to shelter thousands of homeless people, channeling most of them into a transitional housing program that will entail residence in a hotel room for up to 18 months. The bulk of the approximately 1,600 households in the hotel housing program had switched to the longer-term alternative as of last week, officials said.
