United exec: Electric planes can cut costs, boost service

United Airlines aims to have electric planes flying short routes before 2030 and will probably start from its Denver and Chicago hubs, says Mike Leskinen, president of United Airlines Ventures. If the aircraft perform as expected, they will cost less than traditional jets, which could mean small cities could “get either service that they didn’t have before or greater frequency of service,” Leskinen adds.
