Air Canada adds Liege freighter flights

Air Canada Cargo has completed its first flight to Liege as part of plans to expand operations in Europe.

The new Toronto-Liege flights will operate twice per week utilising one of the airline’s B767 freighters. Later this year a third frequency will be added.

The service also includes a stop in Halifax.

Matthieu Casey, managing director, commercial at Air Canada Cargo, said: “We are pleased to begin operating our freighters to Liege, a further strengthening of the Air Canada Cargo network as we continue to expand and provide customers with reliable, year-round service.

“This is another important connection from a key European market with Air Canada and Air Canada Cargo’s global network through its Toronto hub.”

Laurent Jossart, chief executive of Liege Airport, added: “We are extremely pleased about the start of the new Air Canada Cargo freighter operation in Liege, being now connected to the global network of Air Canada Cargo.

“Liege Airport has been chosen by Air Canada Cargo as the first ever freighter-only station, which clearly shows the fast-growing importance of Liege Airport as a leading European cargo hub.”

The carrier will continue its expansion in Europe next month when it adds a twice weekly service to Basel, one of Europe’s main pharma hubs.

The new flights come as the carrier has been expanding its freighter fleet.

Air Canada will put into operation four more B767Fs this year bringing its fleet of the model to seven aircraft.

The carrier will take delivery of a further two B767 freighters in 2024 as well as two B777Fs. In total, the airline’s cargo fleet will stand at 11 aircraft (nine B767s and two B777s) by the end of 2024.
