Carnival Cruise Line has expanded its health and safety partnership with Det Norske Veritas (DNV).

Together, the two have pledged to prioritize the HESS (Health, Environment, Safety, and Sustainability) Excellence program aboard the cruise line.

Carnival introduced the program almost two years ago when it became the first cruise line to have its entire fleet back in operation post-pandemic.

“A lesson we learned during the pandemic was that sometimes we do not take advantage of a useful new technology immediately because sticking to the routine is easier,” Captain Domenico Rognoni, Chief Marine Officer of Carnival, said in a statement.

“The pandemic brought about many opportunities to embrace new technology. Reinventing the way we do things taught us how much more we can sometimes accomplish when we really have to.”

The cruise industry continues to bounce back more than three years since it shut down amid the COVID crisis and as travel restrictions and requirements have loosened it now has a little more leeway to use the health and technology policies mentioned by Rognoni, who is well-known in the cruise industry for his health and safety protocols.
