Atlantic Airways to launch direct flights from Faroe Islands to New York
Atlantic Airways, the flag carrier of the Faroe Islands, has announced the launch of its first direct transatlantic flight from Vagar Airport to New York’s Stewart International Airport.
The route will be served once a week by Atlantic Airways’ Airbus A320neo from August 22 through October 4, 2023. The flight duration between the two airports is just over six hours, with no stopovers.
The Faroe Islands, located halfway between Scotland and Iceland in the Northeast Atlantic, are an archipelago of 18 mountainous islands with a population of 52,000. The islands’ unspoiled and unexplored sights have been attracting tourists since 2014, and the Faroe Islands’ tourism board has been able to maintain its pre-pandemic momentum, as tourists continually search for off-the-beaten-track destinations.
