American’s new routes connect California and Texas

American Airlines has begun a new route connecting state capitals. The airline is now flying between Sacramento and Austin.

The nonstop flight began the first week of May, and it is American’s first flight from Sacramento to Austin since the pandemic began two years ago.

Because this new offering connects two state capitals, officials hope that politicians will use the flights or continue on to Washington.

“It opens the door between our two communities,” said an official from the Sacramento Airport. “It opens opportunities for business, tourism, education and cultural exchange between our two regions.”

Special ceremonies were held at each airport for the inaugural flights on Friday.
