Honda Aircraft to Commercialize New Light Jet
Honda Aircraft has announced on June 14 its plans to bring the HondaJet 2600 Concept, a new light jet, to the commercial market. Initially introduced at the 2021 NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE), the company aims to obtain type certification for the new light jet by 2028. This addition will complement Honda Aircraft Company’s existing very light jet model, the HondaJet Elite II.
In line with Honda Aircraft Company’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions, the new light jet will offer exceptional fuel efficiency. It is projected to achieve up to 20% better fuel efficiency compared to typical light jets and over 40% better fuel efficiency than medium-sized jets during a standard mission.
Hideto Yamasaki, President and CEO of Honda Aircraft, expressed excitement about the commercialization of the new light jet, stating, “This marks Honda’s next chapter of skyward mobility, expanding the potential of people’s lives. With sustainability as a core element, we will leverage our technological innovations to accelerate the program’s development.”
To ensure the success of the new light jet, Honda Aircraft has secured strategic supplier agreements with key industry players. Aernnova will contribute aerostructures and components, Garmin will handle avionics, Spirit AeroSystems will oversee the fuselage, and Williams International will provide the engines. The company is currently finalizing engineering designs for the new light jet, and fabrication activities are already in progress.
