Air Algérie Orders Seven Airbus A330-900neo and A350-1000 Jets

Air Algérie, the national flag carrier of Algeria, has partnered with Airbus to secure a significant agreement for the acquisition of seven new aircraft. The deal, announced on June 1, 2023, includes an order for five A330-900neos and two A350-1000s. This strategic collaboration with Airbus will empower Air Algérie to leverage the flexibility of Airbus’ cutting-edge product range, enhance its regional services, and execute an ambitious plan to expand its transcontinental destinations.

The A330neo and A350 represent the latest generation of widebody aircraft by Airbus. The A330-900, equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, boasts an impressive non-stop flight range of 7,200 nautical miles or approximately 13,334 kilometers. On the other hand, the A350, powered by Rolls-Royce’s innovative Trent XWB engines, offers a remarkable non-stop travel capability of 8,700 nautical miles or around 16,100 kilometers.

By integrating both the A330neo and A350-1000 into its fleet, Air Algérie will gain substantial operational advantages, including a 25 percent lower fuel burn per seat and enhanced flexibility resulting from the shared commonality among Airbus aircraft. This significant agreement adds to the global success of the A330 and A350 families, with the A330 accumulating 1,775 firm orders from 130 customers worldwide, and the A350 range receiving 967 firm orders from 54 customers as of the end of April 2023.

In addition to this partnership with Airbus, Air Algérie has also recently placed an order with Boeing for eight Boeing 737-9 MAX aircraft, scheduled for delivery from 2027. These combined orders from both Airbus and Boeing will greatly contribute to Air Algérie’s comprehensive fleet renewal and expansion strategy.

Presently, Air Algérie’s fleet comprises 56 aircraft, including eight A330-200s, 32 Boeing 737s of various versions (including five of the relatively rare 737-600), 15 ATR-72 turboprops, and a single L100, the civilian variant of the iconic Lockheed C-130 Hercules cargo aircraft.
