Boeing and Air India Finalize Historic Order for up to 290 Jets at Paris Air Show 2023

Boeing and Air India have announced the finalization of a landmark order for up to 290 new Boeing jets, along with expanded services. The signing ceremony took place at the 2023 Paris Air Show, marking a significant milestone in renewing and expanding Air India’s fleet with Boeing’s leading single-aisle and widebody aircraft.

The order comprises a total of 190 737 MAXs, 20 787 Dreamliners, and 10 777X jets, with options for an additional 50 737 MAXs and 20 787 Dreamliners. This order stands as Boeing’s largest in South Asia and underscores the enduring 90-year partnership between Boeing and Air India. In addition to the aircraft, a comprehensive range of aviation services will be provided, enabling Air India to sustainably grow its operations in the rapidly expanding aviation market of South Asia. Over the next two decades, it is anticipated that South Asia will witness its in-service fleet more than triple from 700 to 2,300 airplanes to meet the rising passenger demand.

The selection of these Boeing models by Air India aligns with the airline’s strategy for sustainable growth, as announced in February. The partnership between Boeing and Air India aims to further strengthen the airline’s position in the region and enhance its ability to meet the evolving needs of passengers.

At the signing ceremony, key representatives from both companies were present, including Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director of Air India; Stan Deal, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes; N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons and Air India; Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Global Services; and Nipun Aggarwal, Commercial & Transformation Officer of Air India.

This substantial order and expanded collaboration between Boeing and Air India signify a significant step forward in the development of the aviation industry in South Asia, setting the stage for future growth and innovation in the region.
