Hungarian Carrier Wizz Air to Establish All-Airbus A321neo Fleet at London-Luton Airport (LTN)
Wizz Air, the Hungarian carrier operating at London-Luton Airport (LTN) in the United Kingdom (UK), has revealed its strategic plans to transition its entire fleet to Airbus A321neos. With 11 aircraft currently in use, boasting an average age of 3 years, the airline aims to optimize fuel efficiency by embracing more eco-friendly aircraft.
The share of Airbus neos within the Luton fleet has already surpassed 50%, and by 2025, Wizz Air envisions achieving an impressive 100%. The current LTN fleet includes A320ceo and A321ceo planes.
As part of their fleet renewal initiative, older aircraft phased out from LTN will be reintegrated into Wizz Air’s global fleet until 2027, after which they will be entirely replaced by the new and advanced Airbus A321neo models.
Wizz Air’s Corporate and ESG Officer, Yvonne Moynihan, emphasized the significance of the London market for the airline and its commitment to sustainable operations. Being a leader in sustainability, Wizz Air proudly operates the youngest fleet in Europe, focusing on technology and innovation to reduce aviation emissions effectively. Fleet renewal emerges as a crucial solution to combat emissions, enabling the company to reduce carbon intensity by 25% by 2030.
Moynihan stated, “Replacing older aircraft at our London Luton Airport base with the newest and more fuel-efficient Airbus A321neo is part of our long-term fleet renewal strategy to reduce carbon intensity by 25% by 2030. We are delighted to work together with London Luton Airport on finding new solutions that help us to reach our targets.”
London Luton Airport is also proactive in its sustainability objectives, aiming to achieve net-zero airport emissions by 2040. Among its commitments are generating 25% of electricity from on-site renewable sources by the end of 2026, adopting 100% low carbon vehicles by 2030, and transitioning to low carbon heat starting in 2030.
Jonathan Rayner, Chief Commercial Officer at London Luton Airport, expressed enthusiasm about the agreement with Wizz Air, as it contributes to the airport’s growing inventory of quieter and more fuel-efficient aircraft.
