A Delta Air Lines flight traveling from Detroit to Fort Lauderdale was diverted to Atlanta on June 28 after an incident involving an “unruly passenger.” Delta Flight 1378 was met by law enforcement at the gate in Atlanta before continuing its journey with a new crew.

While Delta did not provide specific details about the incident, the airline emphasized its zero-tolerance policy towards threats and abuse directed at its staff. Delta stated that it is offering support to the flight attendant involved and is cooperating with authorities during the investigation.

The rise in unruly passenger incidents has become a concerning trend, with reports showing a significant increase in recent years. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, 2021 witnessed the highest surge in incident reports, with a 492% increase compared to the previous year. As of the latest available data, there have been 857 reports of unruly passengers to the FAA in 2023.
