Air Canada Boeing 777-300 Incurs Damage in Fire Incident at Montreal-Trudeau Airport

In a recent incident at Montreal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) on July 9, 2023, an Air Canada Boeing 777-300 faced damages after a parked vehicle underneath it caught fire.

Dramatic video footage of the event surfaced on social media, capturing plumes of black smoke engulfing the aircraft’s tail, as witnessed by several individuals.

Fortunately, the incident, which occurred around 15:15 local time, resulted in no reported injuries or casualties. The swift response from authorities contained the fire within just 30 minutes.

The vehicle involved was a water truck responsible for supplying clean drinking water to aircraft tanks. However, the exact cause of the fire remains unknown.

Prior to the incident, the Air Canada flight (CA 885) had arrived from Geneva Airport (GVA), Switzerland, with passengers on board. They were promptly deplaned for their safety.

While the extent of the damage is still being assessed, passenger-shot videos displayed scorch marks leading up to the aircraft door in the rear area of the Boeing 777.

Aviation safety company JACDEC also uploaded a close-up assessment of the damage sustained by the aircraft during the fire.

Air Canada has confirmed that the aircraft is temporarily offline for maintenance inspection as a precautionary measure.

The unfortunate incident comes shortly after news of a baggage handler’s tragic death at Montreal Airport while attempting to dislodge a piece of luggage from a baggage carousel.
