Breeze Airways, the upstart low-cost carrier, has decided to expand.

And they have set their sights on Florida.

The carrier has announced 11 new routes to the Sunshine State. The biggest beneficiary will be Fort Myers on Florida’s Southwest Coast, about two hours south of Tampa.

Nine of the 11 new routes, including New Orleans, Pittsburgh and Columbus, Ohio, will emanate from Fort Myers. Breeze now flies a total of 13 routes from Fort Myers.

The airline is looking to take advantage of the overwhelming majority of leisure travelers.

Breeze’s Florida expansion also includes new nonstop routes to both Jacksonville and Vero Beach from Providence, Rhode Island.

Breeze, founded by JetBlue founder David Neeleman, utilizes small airports. But it is clearly going after low-cost rival Spirit Airlines on its home turf in Florida. Breeze has made significant inroads with its strategy since debuting in May of 2021.

The new routes are set to launch in November, expanding Breeze’s footprint to 58 nonstop routes to seven destinations in Florida.
