Athens Emerges as One of the Top 10 Most Popular City Destinations for Summer 2023

Based on flight search data, ForwardKeys, has revealed the most popular city destinations this summer

Athens has made it into the Top 10 most popular city destinations for the summer of 2023, according to travel intelligence provider ForwardKeys after assessment of flight search data for the July 1 – August 31 period.

More specifically, the Greek capital ranked tenth with an index value of 51 as one of the most searched for destinations.

Palma Mallorca, Singapore, Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Los Angeles, Rome, Manilla, and Frankfurt complete the Top 20 list. Other city destinations gaining ground for the summer ahead include Antalya, Berlin, Cancun, Cairo, Delhi, Dubai, Dublin, Ho Chi Minh City, Malaga, Marrakech, Miami, Milan, Punta Cana, San Francisco, Seoul, Tel Aviv-Yafo, Warsaw, Valetta, and Vienna.

Meanwhile, compared to last year, Bangkok moved up three places, London held its position, Denpasar rose six spots, and Athens is a new entrant in the Top 10 moving up from 11th spot in 2022.

Earlier this year, Greece was also among the 10 most searched for destinations in Europe.

In a parallel report, ForwardKeys found growing interest in city and shopping travel coming close to popular sea & sun holidays. Indicatively, the indexed demand for the most popular urban destinations is up by 42 percent this summer almost double that of traditional “sun & beach” destinations which was up by 22 percent compared to the previous summer.
