San Diego International Airport has unveiled the list of retail and restaurant operations that will populate its new $3.4 billion Terminal 1 project, featuring a selection of regional and national brands. The terminal’s first 19 gates are scheduled to open in 2025, with 11 more being added by 2028.

The new Terminal 1 will replace the existing Terminal 1, which was built in 1967 and serves more than 12 million passengers a year. The new terminal will have a modern and efficient design, with more seating, concessions, security lanes, and amenities for travelers.

The airport authority announced the names of the retail and restaurant operators that will occupy the new terminal, following a competitive bidding process. The list includes local favorites such as Phil’s BBQ, Stone Brewing, Puesto, and Better Buzz Coffee, as well as national chains such as Shake Shack, Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, and Hudson News.

The airport authority said it selected the operators based on their ability to provide high-quality products and services, reflect the diversity and culture of San Diego, and incorporate sustainability and innovation in their operations.

The new Terminal 1 is part of the airport’s development plan, which also includes improvements to the airfield, transportation, and parking. The project is expected to create up to 20,000 local jobs and generate $1.6 billion in economic impact.

The construction of the new terminal began in November 2021 and is expected to be completed by June 2028. The airport authority said it is working closely with the Federal Aviation Administration, the airlines, and other stakeholders to ensure a safe and smooth transition.
