American Airlines Expands Network from Phoenix Hub with New Destinations

American Airlines is expanding its network from its Phoenix hub with two new destinations: Tijuana, Mexico, and Pasco, Washington. The airline will be the first US carrier to offer service to the Mexican border town, and the only one to fly to the Tri-Cities area in eastern Washington.

The new routes will begin on Feb. 15, 2024, and will operate once daily on board an American Eagle Embraer E175 regional jet. The flights will depart from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) and arrive at Tijuana International Airport (TIJ) and Tri-Cities Airport (PSC), respectively.

The addition of Tijuana and Pasco will bring the total number of destinations served by American from Phoenix to 100, more than any other airline. The airline said the new routes will provide more options for travelers in Arizona and beyond, as well as boost the local economy and tourism.

“We are excited to add two new destinations to our route map that are exclusively served by our Phoenix hub,” said Brian Znotins, American’s Vice President of Network Planning. “These new routes not only provide more opportunities for our customers to travel, but also support our continued investment in Phoenix and our commitment to being the preferred airline in the West.”

Tijuana is a popular destination for business and leisure travelers, as it offers access to the Cross Border Xpress terminal that connects San Diego with flights from Tijuana via an immigration checkpoint and a bridge. Pasco is part of the Tri-Cities region, along with Kennewick and Richland, which is known for its wine industry, outdoor recreation, and scientific research.
