In a recent interview with ET Infra, the CEO and founder of Akasa Air, Vinay Dube, confirmed the airline’s ambitious plans to place a three-digit aircraft order by the close of 2023. Dube expressed confidence in making this significant announcement for the acquisition of new planes.

The news of the large aircraft order has been a subject of speculation for several months, and in a tweet on July 26, 2023, Akasa Air referred to it as a “potential” three-digit aircraft order. However, Dube firmly stated in the interview that they are indeed planning to finalize the triple-digit order before the year ends.

Besides the exciting developments on the aircraft front, Dube also revealed that Akasa Air has plans to commence international flight operations by the conclusion of 2023. This expansion marks a crucial milestone for the relatively young airline, which launched in 2022 with its first Boeing 737-8.

Notably, earlier this year, Dube had hinted at the impending large order and the recruitment of 300 pilots. He had mentioned that the order would be substantial, reaching three digits in number.

In June, during the Paris Air Show, Akasa Air had already announced an increase in its order of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, including four additional 737-8 jets. This move brought the airline’s total order book to 76 jets, featuring 23 737-8s and 737-8-200 planes.

As of now, Akasa Air operates a fleet of 19 airplanes, servicing 16 destinations. However, with the expected 20th aircraft’s arrival just around the corner, the airline is undoubtedly taking significant strides towards its expansion goals.
