A SpiceJet aircraft experienced a fire incident during maintenance checks at Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in Delhi, India. The airline reported a fire warning on engine one of the Dash 8 Q500, but the flames were swiftly extinguished, ensuring the safety of both the aircraft and maintenance personnel. The incident took place on July 25, 2023, and a video of the flaming engine was shared on social media, showing intense flames and thick black smoke in the area. SpiceJet clarified that the necessary precautions were taken, and a fire engine was called to the scene. Coincidentally, the incident occurred on the same day that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) removed SpiceJet from its enhanced surveillance regime due to maintenance concerns.
