American Airlines Restarts Highly-Requested New York to Boston Route

American Airlines is restarting flights between New York’s LaGuardia Airport and Boston’s Logan International Airport, a route it had previously operated for nearly 60 years.

The the service will begin again on October 29, according to a report from The Points Guy that was confirmed by an airline spokesperson.

American operated the popular highly-traveled route from the 1960s through January 2022. At that point, American dropped the service because its partner JetBlue covered the same route.

With the much-ballyhooed, but heavily scrutinized, partnership between American Airlines and JetBlue Airways now ended (thanks to the ruling of a federal judge who declared the alliance between the two airlines anti-competitive), American is now revising and rethinking some of its network.

As part of that review, the airline has decided to offer service four times daily between New York and Boston. Back in 2019, American offered 12 daily flights between the two major Northeast hubs.

The Points Guy also reported that American is doing away with its route between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Monterrey International Airport (MTY) in Mexico. That change will take effect December. 19. The route has only been operating since last November. But there’s not enough demand to keep it going, an American spokesman told TPG.

American is also reducing the number of flights it runs between Boston and Louisville, Kentucky. As of October 28, there will only be one daily flight between the two locations.
