Fort Worth-based American Airlines Group Inc. is set to expand its flight offerings to Shanghai, capitalizing on an agreement between the US and China to increase flight frequency between the two countries.

Starting in January, American Airlines will initiate daily service between DFW International Airport and Shanghai Pudong International. This service expansion marks a significant increase from the current four weekly flights. According to a statement provided to Bloomberg News on Wednesday, the additional flights will be available for booking on American’s schedule beginning this weekend.

This strategic move by American Airlines follows similar initiatives by industry peers, Delta Air Lines Inc. and United Airlines Holdings Inc. Both companies have taken advantage of the recent government accord to double the number of weekly flights permitted between the United States and China. Delta has announced its intention to offer 10 weekly flights later this year and expand even further in 2024. Meanwhile, United revealed plans last week to ramp up flight frequency in October and November.
