United Airlines marked the 8th Annual Girls in Aviation Day on September 24, 2023, by hosting events at four major hubs: Denver, San Francisco, Chicago, and Houston. The objective of these events was to motivate and empower girls aged 8-17 to pursue their dreams of a career in aviation.

At Denver International Airport, the young participants had the unique opportunity to interact with women who contribute to the operations of the United Airlines Denver Hub, the city’s largest private employer. The girls explored various aircraft and had hands-on experiences in different roles within the airline industry, including pilots, flight attendants, mechanics, and ramp workers.

Adriana Bendeck Rodriguez, United Airlines’ youngest female pilot, shared her inspiring journey with the girls. She made history at the age of 28, emphasizing that her passion for flying was ignited at 15 when she received flight lessons as a gift from her stepfather. Adriana hopes her story serves as an example, showing that young girls can achieve remarkable milestones in aviation.

Jonna McGrath, the first female vice president of airport operations for the United Denver Hub, stressed that the event aimed to demonstrate the multitude of opportunities available within aviation. By empowering young girls to pursue their dreams, the hope is that they will consider careers in aviation.

Similar events unfolded at San Francisco International Airport, Chicago O’Hare International Airport, and Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport, attracting over 200 girls at each location. These events featured guest speakers, engaging activities, and informative exhibits highlighting the accomplishments and diversity of women in the aviation industry.

United Airlines proudly collaborates with Women in Aviation International (WAI), a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing women in various aviation career fields and interests. WAI organizes Girls in Aviation Day annually, introducing girls to the exciting prospects and challenges within the aviation sector. In 2023, this global event reached over 20,000 girls through both in-person and virtual activities.
