Two major airports in the United States, San Antonio International Airport in Texas and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida, have commenced construction on new terminal facilities to expand their capacity and improve services.

San Antonio International Airport is building a new facility in Terminal A, which will add three ground gates to accommodate increased domestic and international flights. This project, funded by a $20 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), is expected to be completed in 2025. It is part of the airport’s 20-year Strategic Development Plan, which also includes the construction of a new terminal, an intermodal transportation center, and a runway extension.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport has initiated the construction of its fifth terminal, featuring five gates for domestic flights. Valued at $404 million, this project is slated for completion in 2026 and is financed through a combination of airport bonds, grants from the Florida Department of Transportation, and passenger facility charges. It aligns with the airport’s Master Plan, aiming to meet the growing demand for air travel in Broward County, with projected passenger numbers increasing from 35 million to nearly 52 million annually within the next 20 years.
