Dassault Aviation Launches FalconWays a New App to Optimize Flight Routes and Reduce Emissions

Share

Dassault Aviation, renowned for its Falcon family of business jets, introduces FalconWays, an innovative flight planning tool designed to empower Falcon pilots in selecting the most fuel-efficient routes and reducing excess fuel, utilizing updated global wind data, optimization techniques, and performance model-specific algorithms. This cutting-edge tool, FalconWays, is available as a flight app on Dassault’s FalconSphere iPad electronic flight bag and seamlessly integrates with Jeppesen and Universal flight planning tools.

FalconWays underwent rigorous evaluation during extensive long-haul flights between the U.S. and Europe, across Asia, and numerous simulations. Real-world usage of FalconWays resulted in remarkable fuel consumption reductions of up to seven percent, translating into substantial savings in fuel costs and reduced carbon emissions for Falcon operators.

This groundbreaking application enables pilots to download worldwide wind data, merge it with imported operational flight plans, utilize in-house performance tools, and leverage vertical, lateral, and mach number optimization data to recalculate flight plans. For Falcons equipped with SATCOM, database updates en-route during long flights further enhance trajectory optimization. Both vertical and lateral trajectory optimization can be performed either before or during the flight.

The initial launch of FalconWays will be on the Falcon 6X extra-widebody twinjet, recently certified by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Subsequent availability is planned for the Falcon 8X in early 2024, the Falcon 7X before the close of 2024, and Falcon 2000LXS/S by early 2025.

FalconWays is a pilot-dedicated application, meticulously crafted in-house by Dassault Engineering and flight operations teams. Their collaborative efforts have resulted in seven patents and the development of advanced algorithms to enhance flight efficiency significantly. This innovative app is a testament to Dassault Aviation’s commitment to sustainable aviation, encompassing support for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) development and investment in low-carbon technologies.
