FedEx Announces U.S. Express Delivery Delays Due to FAA IT Outage

FedEx announced potential delays to its U.S. Express deliveries following an overnight IT system malfunction at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 25, and the regulatory body has since confirmed the issue’s resolution.

The renowned Express service by FedEx employs aircraft for overnight shipment deliveries. However, any delays resulting from the recent IT mishap won’t be eligible for either refunds or credits. In a recent service alert, FedEx highlighted potential delivery setbacks across the U.S. slated for October 25, 2023.

FedEx clarified in correspondence with Reuters that the IT disruption at its principal air hub in Memphis, Tennessee, was directly linked to an “FAA issue.”

The FAA, while communicating with Reuters, expounded on the situation, revealing that a short halt in departures on Tuesday night was prompted by an equipment glitch during a planned software upgrade. Nonetheless, regular operations at air traffic facilities in the Memphis vicinity have been reinstated.

Contrastingly, FedEx’s market rival, United Parcel Service, which operates its primary air hub out of Louisville, Kentucky, reported no irregularities. UPS representatives informed Reuters that their flights “have been executing as anticipated with no delays to report.”
