Korean Air Boosts Airbus A321neo Fleet with Order for Additional 20 Aircraft

Korean Air (KE) has revealed plans to expand its Airbus A321neo fleet by ordering an additional 20 aircraft from Airbus, bringing its total A321neo order to 50. The airline, in the process of renewing its fleet, already has an existing order for 22 A321-200Ns and has taken delivery of seven out of eight A321-200NX, with the first delivered in December 2022.

The newly announced 20 A321neo aircraft are scheduled for delivery through December 31, 2030. While the exact neo subtypes were not disclosed, Korean Air cited the order as part of its commitment to greater operational efficiency, enhanced flight safety, and reduced carbon emissions. The airline has experienced positive feedback from passengers regarding the features of the A321neo.

Korean Air has been deploying its growing A321neo fleet on short and medium-haul routes, including destinations in Southeast Asia, China, and Japan. The decision to increase the A321neo order aligns with the airline’s strategic goals and commitment to modernizing its aircraft fleet.

In addition to its Airbus order, Korean Air has outstanding orders for 51 Boeing aircraft, including 22 Boeing 737-8s, nine 787-9s, and 20 787-10s. The airline continues to phase out older aircraft, with retirements planned for six A330s and six 777-200ERs. The A330 fleet comprises eight A330-200s and 21 A330-300s, while the Boeing 777-200ER fleet consists of eight aircraft. The airline is gradually modernizing its fleet to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and passenger experience.
