easyJet Plans Order for 157 Airbus A320neo Family Aircraft, Phases Out A319s
easyGroup Holdings is on track to finalize an agreement with Airbus for the acquisition of 157 additional A320neo Family aircraft. This deal aims to complete the retirement of easyJet’s A319-100 fleet and replace approximately half of the remaining A320-200s. The provisional agreement includes fifty-six A320-200Ns and 101 A321-200Ns, with an additional 100 purchase rights. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in fiscal 2029 and conclude by fiscal 2034.
The new aircraft will feature CFM International LEAP-1A engines, with ongoing discussions between easyJet and the engine manufacturer. Additionally, easyJet has converted 35 A320neo commitments into A321neo aircraft.
According to a stock market filing by easyJet, the limited availability of delivery slots for narrow-body aircraft with around 200 seats until at least 2029 prompted the airline to secure future slots. By placing this order, easyJet aims to uphold its current scale, executing a disciplined growth strategy by replacing retiring aircraft.
The significance of the A321neo was highlighted by easyJet, emphasizing its role in capacity upgauging and revenue enhancement, particularly on slot-constrained airports or longer and high-demand routes.
This prospective order supplements easyJet’s existing commitment for 158 A320neo Family aircraft, comprising ninety A320neo and sixty-eight A321neo after the recent conversion. The current fleet includes various models, with easyJet UK operating A319s, A320-200s, A320neo, and A321neo, while easyJet Europe and easyJet Switzerland manage A319s, A320s, A320neo, and A321neo.
The acquisition aligns with easyJet’s strategic vision and fleet renewal efforts, marking a significant step toward operational efficiency and modernization.
