Air Tanzania Unveils 737-9 Operations, Expanding Connectivity to India and Southern Africa

Air Tanzania (TC), based in Dar es Salaam, has announced the commencement of scheduled operations with its newly acquired B737 MAX 9 aircraft. The inaugural service is set to take off on October 13, marking a milestone for the airline’s regional expansion plans.

The B737 MAX 9, with registration 5H-TCP and manufacturer serial number 67790, will operate 4x weekly flights between Dar es Salaam and Mumbai International. Additionally, the aircraft will connect the Tanzanian capital with Lusaka and Harare International in Zambia and Zimbabwe, respectively, on a 4x weekly basis.

The aircraft, ordered directly from Boeing by the Tanzanian government, was ferried from Seattle Boeing Field to Dar es Salaam between September 30 and October 3, 2023. Owned by TGF – Tanzania Government Flight, this B737 MAX 9 is the first of two units, with the second expected to join the fleet before the year-end, according to an Air Tanzania spokesperson.

Air Tanzania’s existing fleet includes four A220-300s, one B767-300F, two B787-8s, one DHC-8-Q300, and five DHC-8-Q400s. The airline has one more B787-8 on order from Boeing, as revealed by the ch-aviation fleets advanced module.
