Japan Airlines Welcomes First A350-1000, Set to Elevate Long-Haul Travel Experience

Japan Airlines (JAL) has officially received its first A350-1000, marking the beginning of a new era in the airline’s fleet. The long-range widebody aircraft completed its ferry flight from Toulouse Blagnac to Tokyo Haneda on December 14, 2023, and is the first of 13 A350-1000s scheduled for delivery to the airline.

Initially anticipated to enter service by the end of 2023, the commencement date for the A350-1000’s operations has been slightly delayed, with the new start date set for January 24, 2024. JA01WJ is slated to operate on the Tokyo Haneda – New York JFK route, offering passengers an enhanced travel experience with the advanced features of the Airbus A350-1000.

Following its debut on the New York route, Japan Airlines has revealed that the A350-1000’s second destination will be Dallas/Fort Worth, although the specific start date for this route has not been confirmed.

JAL’s A350-1000 boasts a premium-heavy configuration, accommodating 239 passengers. The cabin layout includes six first-class seats, 54 business class seats, 24 premium economy class seats, and 155 economy class seats. Airbus highlights that its A350 design offers unparalleled standards of efficiency and comfort, promising an elevated flying experience for passengers.

With the addition of the A350-1000 now joins the fleet of 22 airlines worldwide, with a total of 297 aircraft in service.

Japan Airlines’ decision to integrate the A350-1000 into its fleet is part of a strategic move to modernize and enhance its long-haul operations. The new aircraft will gradually replace the existing Boeing 777-300ER fleet, which currently plays a pivotal role in the airline’s long-haul flying.
