EasyJet Finalizes Order for 157 Airbus A320neo Family Aircraft

EasyJet has officially concluded its order for 157 Airbus A320neo family aircraft, comprising 56 A320-200Ns and 101 A321-200NX. Additionally, the British low-cost carrier has converted a previous order for 35 A320-200Ns into A321-200NX aircraft.

CEO Johan Lundgren highlighted the significance of the order, emphasizing its role in replacing older, less fuel-efficient aircraft with more modern and eco-friendly options. Lundgren also pointed out that the order provides easyJet with the flexibility for disciplined growth, aligning with the airline’s commitment to its net-zero roadmap.

The order, initially disclosed as a tentative commitment in October 2023, solidifies EasyJet’s position as a key player in the European aviation market. The move to incorporate more A321-200NX aircraft is seen as part of easyJet’s strategy to optimize its fleet for enhanced efficiency and capacity.

With this order, easyJet aims to streamline its operations by phasing out older aircraft models and introducing more fuel-efficient options, contributing to its sustainability goals. The airline’s existing fleet, operated by subsidiaries EasyJet UK, EasyJet Europe, and EasyJet Switzerland, includes A319-100s, A320-200s, A320-200Ns, and A321-200NX aircraft.

This strategic move positions EasyJet for disciplined growth, taking advantage of the opportunities presented by upgauging to larger aircraft models within the A320neo family.
