Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas Unveils Groundbreaking AquaDome Attraction

Royal Caribbean International continues to push the boundaries of cruise ship innovation with the Icon of the Seas, set to debut next year. The latest feature to capture the imagination of travelers worldwide is the extraordinary AquaDome, a marvel of engineering and design that promises to redefine onboard entertainment.

The AquaDome is a unique fusion of a theater and a solarium, masterfully designed to transition from a serene, daylight retreat into a dynamic entertainment hub at night. This impressive structure spans over 355,000 square feet, stretching from Deck 14 to 20, and weighs a staggering 367 tons. Constructed from steel, glass, and aluminum panels, the AquaDome is the result of eight months of meticulous work, symbolizing a significant achievement in shipbuilding.

Royal Caribbean celebrates the AquaDome as one of the most complex spaces ever created on a cruise ship, highlighting it as a testament to the innovation and creativity of their teams. “The AquaDome is probably the most complex space we have ever built. This is one of the biggest milestones. It’s the largest lift ever in the shipbuilding industry. It’s a testimony to the innovation and creativity of the teams. It is everything that we’ve ever wanted to create. And the incredible feeling that wow, we did it together,” the company stated.

At night, the AquaDome will transform into a luminous spectacle, offering passengers a stunning visual experience. Aligning with its aquatic theme, the AquaDome will also feature divers and provide a selection of food and beverages, enhancing the overall passenger experience.

The Icon of the Seas is currently nearing completion, with about 90% of its construction finished. It has recently accomplished its second phase of sea trials, paving the way for its highly anticipated launch in early 2024.

Adding to the excitement, Royal Caribbean has opened bookings for its 2025-26 Caribbean sailings, which include journeys aboard the Icon of the Seas departing from Miami.
