HiSky Europe, a Romanian airline, is set to significantly enhance its international network by launching a direct service between Bucharest Henri Coanda Airport (OTP) and New York John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) in 2024. This development comes as HiSky recently received approval from the U.S. Transportation Department to commence flights to the United States.

The new OTP-JFK route, scheduled to start on June 7, 2024, will operate four times a week, with an approximate flying time of 10 hours. This service will stand out as the sole nonstop connection between Bucharest and JFK, marking a notable milestone in HiSky’s expansion and in the Romanian aviation sector.

An Airbus A330 aircraft will be deployed for this transatlantic route, ensuring a comfortable journey for passengers traveling between Romania and the U.S. This service aims to cater to the demand for direct, efficient travel across the Atlantic, especially significant in the post-pandemic travel landscape.

Iulian Scorpan, CEO of HiSky, highlighted the importance of this route, stating that it represents a major achievement not just for the airline but also for Romania and travelers seeking convenient transatlantic travel. He emphasized that this development makes the U.S. a more accessible travel option, especially important since the democratization of air travel post-pandemic.

Since its inception three years ago, HiSky has focused on becoming the preferred airline for Romanian passengers. This ambition is evident in its existing network, with the airline currently operating eight international routes from Bucharest. These include destinations such as Brussels, Barcelona, Malaga, Bordeaux, Chisinau, Dublin, Frankfurt, and Tel Aviv (though the latter is currently suspended).

With this new route, HiSky not only broadens its footprint in the international aviation market but also provides a direct link that fosters cultural and economic exchanges between Romania and the United States. The Bucharest to New York route is poised to become a popular choice for travelers, reflecting HiSky’s commitment to expanding its global reach and enhancing connectivity for its passengers.
