VietJetAir Boosts Fleet with Four Wet-Leased A320s for Lunar New Year Rush
In anticipation of the heightened passenger demand during the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday, VietJetAir (VJ, Hanoi Noi Bai International) has strategically expanded its fleet by acquiring four A320-200 aircraft on a wet-lease basis from Freebird Airlines (FH, Istanbul Airport). This move is aimed at enhancing the airline’s capacity to accommodate the surge in travel during Vietnam’s most significant holiday period.
Detailed research by ch-aviation has revealed the identities of these aircraft:
- TC-FBV (msn 4658) arrived in Ho Chi Minh City from Delhi International on December 25, 2023, and commenced its full schedule of revenue flights on December 27.
- TC-FHK (msn 4102) was ferried into Ho Chi Minh City from Delhi on December 24 and began service for VietJet on December 26.
- TC-FHL (msn 4154) reached Ho Chi Minh City from Delhi on December 25 and started flights with VietJet on December 26.
- TC-FHP (msn 5906) entered Ho Chi Minh City from Delhi on January 8, 2024, and began its revenue operations for VietJet the next day.
VietJetAir, in its statement, emphasized that the addition of these aircraft is crucial to meet the increased demand during the Lunar New Year, which is the peak travel period in Vietnam. According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), Vietnamese airlines are expected to operate around 33,800 flights between January 24 and February 25, 2024, marking a 14% increase from the previous year and a 21% rise compared to the regular flight schedule. This strategic fleet enhancement by VietJetAir reflects the airline’s commitment to ensuring efficient and sufficient service during this busy travel season.
