SkyUp MT (U5, Malta International), in a move to enhance its capacity for the Summer 2024 season, has announced the wet-lease of two A320-200 aircraft. These planes, sourced from Fly2Sky (F6, Sofia), are set to bolster the airline’s operations from its Egyptian bases, marking a significant expansion in its service offerings.

The aircraft involved in this arrangement are LZ-MDI (msn 3378) and LZ-FSD (msn 3461). Scheduled to begin operations for SkyUp MT on April 5, they will continue their service until November 5, 2024. The A320s, each with a single-class configuration capable of seating up to 180 passengers, will be deployed on various European and North African routes. Currently, these aircraft are wet-leased to the Uzbek start-up Humo Air (HJ, Tashkent International), as indicated by the ch-aviation fleets advanced module.

SkyUp MT currently operates with two in-house B737-800s, both of which are wet-leased to FlyOne (5F, Chisinau International) in Moldova. The Malta-based carrier, a subsidiary of tour operator Join UP!, has been conducting its ‘U5’ code flights through aircraft wet-leased from its Ukrainian sister company, SkyUp Airlines (PQ, Kyiv Boryspil). Notably, SkyUp MT initiated bases at Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh airports during the Winter 2023/24 season. These operations, initially seasonal, are transitioning to year-round services.

As per the latest communication with ch-aviation, SkyUp MT revealed that it plans to operate from both Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh in the Summer 2024 season, although detailed plans are yet to be finalized. This strategic move by SkyUp MT to wet-lease two A320s underlines its commitment to expanding its reach and capacity, particularly in the Egyptian market, during the high-demand summer travel season.
