The Carnival Jubilee’s naming ceremony was a Texas-sized celebration that took place on Saturday, with the ship officially welcomed by its Godmother, the three-time Grammy winner Gwen Stefani. The event was not only a showcase of the latest addition to Carnival’s Excel class ships but also an opportunity for Carnival to unveil Emeril’s Bistro, a new dining venue onboard, further enhancing the culinary offerings alongside sister ships Mardi Gras and Celebration.

The ceremony was graced with the presence of local government officials, Carnival Corporation CEO Josh Weinstein, former CEO and Chairman Arnold Donald, and Emeril Lagasse, the award-winning chef and Chief Culinary Officer. The event also welcomed several hundred travel advisors, VIPs, and members of the press, all gathered to witness this significant milestone in Carnival’s history.

Highlighting the festivities was the traditional champagne bottle smash over the ship’s bow, delivered with a unique twist via zip-line, symbolizing good luck and safe travels for the ship and all who sail on her.

Galveston Mayor Craig Brown played a pivotal role in the day’s celebrations, presenting Carnival President Christine Duffy with a key to the city and proclaiming February 24th as “Carnival Jubilee Day.” Duffy’s speech touched on the exciting future prospects for Carnival, including the introduction of the fourth Excel class ship, Celebration Key, and potential expansions at the Galveston port, hinting at Carnival’s ongoing commitment to the city.

The ceremony also underscored Carnival’s dedication to philanthropy with the renewal of their commitment to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Carnival announced not only that they had met their original pledge of $34 million by 2024 but also that they are increasing their pledge to $50 million by 2030. ALSAC CEO Rick Shadyac accepted this generous pledge and a $50,000 check on behalf of Gwen Stefani, furthering the impact of Carnival’s philanthropic efforts.

In addition, an auction of specially designed Carnival Jubilee-themed boots by Houston-based Parker Boot Company raised $25,000 for Operation Homefront, supporting Carnival’s commitment to assisting military families.

The ceremony concluded with a performance by Gwen Stefani, treating guests to renditions of her hits like “Hollaback Girl” and “Don’t Speak,” adding a memorable soundtrack to an already unforgettable day.

Carnival Jubilee, which began its sailing journey on December 23rd, offers week-long Western Caribbean cruises from its home port in Galveston, Texas. As a testament to Carnival’s commitment to sustainability, Jubilee utilizes liquefied natural gas (LNG) as its fuel source, accommodating up to 6,500 guests and 1,700 crew members. Marking a significant milestone, Jubilee is the first ship named at the Galveston port, which saw over 1.49 million passengers in 2023, underscoring Carnival’s influential presence in the cruising industry and its ongoing commitment to innovation, community, and entertainment.
