Search Underway for Holland America Line Crew Member Who Went Overboard Near Florida Keys
A crew member from the Holland America Line cruise ship, Rotterdam, is currently missing after apparently going overboard intentionally during the final leg of a six-night Caribbean cruise. The incident occurred as the ship was navigating east along the Florida Keys.
The situation came to light early Saturday morning when the ship docked at Fort Lauderdale and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office was notified. Investigations began immediately, with officials reviewing closed-circuit TV footage from the ship. The footage reportedly captured the crew member going overboard at around 9:45 p.m. on Friday.
Both the Broward County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard are actively involved in the search and investigation efforts to locate the missing crew member. The U.S. Coast Guard is conducting a search at sea in hopes of finding the individual.
Holland America Line has expressed deep sorrow over the incident. “All of us at Holland America Line are deeply saddened by this incident and our thoughts and prayers are with the team member’s family at this difficult time,” the company stated in a release to UPI.
The ongoing search and the circumstances surrounding the incident continue to be closely monitored by authorities and Holland America Line.
