Qatar Airways CEO Calls on Boeing and Airbus to Address Aircraft Delivery Delays

Qatar Airways CEO, Badr Mohammed Al Meer, has expressed concerns over aircraft delivery delays from leading manufacturers Boeing and Airbus, emphasizing the need for more robust action to be taken against supply chain disruptions. Speaking at the Qatar Economic Forum in Doha, Al Meer highlighted the challenges faced by the airline industry in meeting the surging travel demand post-pandemic, due to slowed production rates from these manufacturers.

The aviation sector has seen a significant rebound in demand for air travel as the world recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic. However, both Boeing and Airbus have been unable to return to their pre-pandemic production levels, primarily due to ongoing supply chain issues and a safety crisis at Boeing. These delays are causing significant operational challenges for airlines like Qatar Airways, which is struggling to expand its fleet fast enough to meet the current high levels of consumer demand.

Al Meer urged both aerospace giants to intensify pressure on their suppliers to accelerate production and reduce delays, thereby helping airlines mitigate financial losses associated with the inability to operate at full capacity. This push for increased accountability and efficiency from Airbus and Boeing’s supply chains is seen as crucial for stabilizing the industry and ensuring airlines can fully capitalize on the travel resurgence.
