United Jet Catches Fire and Aborts Takeoff at O’Hare Airport

United Airlines flight 2901, bound for Seattle, experienced an engine fire on Monday afternoon, leading to an aborted takeoff at O’Hare International Airport. Fortunately, all 148 passengers were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. as the Airbus A320 was on the taxiway. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the fire prompted an immediate response from the ground crew and emergency responders. The aircraft was towed back to the gate, allowing passengers to deplane safely.

“United flight 2901 from Chicago to Seattle was delayed prior to departure due to an issue with the engine, which our local ground crew and emergency responders immediately addressed,” United Airlines stated. The airline is currently arranging alternative travel plans for the affected passengers.

Due to the incident, the FAA temporarily halted arriving flights at O’Hare, resuming normal operations by approximately 2:45 p.m.
