Miami International Airport (MIA) is set to expand its cargo capacity significantly with a new state-of-the-art facility, thanks to a $400 million investment by Miami Gateway Partners (MGP), a joint venture between Airis Aviation Development and Vantage Airport Group. Approved by Miami-Dade County, the 784,000-square-foot facility is slated for completion in 2029 and is expected to increase MIA’s cargo capacity by at least 50%. Strategically designed for efficiency, the facility will feature an automated cargo handling system, numerous truck docks, and advanced security and inspection facilities to accommodate up to 1.5 million tons of cargo annually. This expansion aims to bolster MIA’s total cargo handling capacity to a minimum of 4.5 million tons per year, reinforcing its position as a leading hub for international trade and logistics.
