Scoot to Launch A320 Service at Kuala Lumpur Subang Airport

Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, is set to initiate international jet services from Kuala Lumpur Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (SZB), commonly known as Subang Airport, marking a significant return to its international gateway status.

The airline has confirmed plans to commence operations on September 1 with Airbus A320 aircraft. Flights will connect Subang Airport to Singapore Changi Airport daily, departing SIN at 11:55 a.m. and returning at 2:10 p.m.

This expansion enhances Scoot’s extensive route network to 70 destinations, including its existing services to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) and various cities in Malaysia such as Ipoh, Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Kuantan, Kuching, Langkawi, Miri, Penang, and Sibu.

By September, Scoot is expected to operate 110 weekly flights to Malaysia, underscoring its commitment to expanding its regional footprint.

According to Aviation Week reports from July 17, other carriers including AirAsia, Batik Air, Firefly, SKS Airways, and Indonesian carrier TransNusa have also secured approval from the Malaysia Aviation Commission to operate from Subang Airport. TransNusa plans to commence flights from Jakarta starting in August.

Historically, Subang Airport served as Kuala Lumpur’s primary international gateway until the inauguration of KUL in 1998, after which it primarily handled turboprop aircraft operations.

Presently, Subang Airport hosts scheduled flights operated by Malaysia Airlines’ LCC Firefly, which serves routes to Alor Setar, Johor Bahru, Kota Bharu, Kuala Terengganu, Langkawi, Penang, and Singapore Seletar Airport using ATR 72 aircraft. Additionally, Berjaya Air operates flights to Redang Island in Malaysia with ATR 42s.

Scoot’s reintroduction of international jet services at Subang Airport signifies a pivotal development in regional air travel, offering travelers enhanced connectivity options and convenience between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
