50 New Routes to Watch in August 2024

August 2024 will see a surge in new air routes, with notable expansions by Asian carriers T’Way Air, Hainan Airlines, and Air India among the highlights. Here’s a look at the key new routes starting this month:

T’Way Air: The South Korean low-cost carrier is launching two new European routes this August. Starting August 8, T’Way will operate three weekly flights from Seoul Incheon to Rome Fiumicino using Airbus A330-200 aircraft. Additionally, a new 4X-weekly service to Paris Charles de Gaulle begins on August 28, increasing to 5X-weekly from October 6. The Barcelona and Frankfurt routes will follow, commencing on September 11 and October 3, respectively. These routes are part of a deal with the European Commission related to the Korean Air-Asiana merger.

Hainan Airlines: On August 2, Hainan Airlines will debut a new nonstop route from Shenzhen Bao’an Airport to Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD). The twice-weekly service will utilize Boeing 787-9 aircraft, adding to the existing 20 weekly nonstop flights between Hungary and China. BUD anticipates traffic between the two countries to exceed 400,000 passengers this year.

Air India: Expanding its UK service, Air India will introduce a new route from Bengaluru to London Gatwick Airport (LGW) on August 18. This 5X-weekly service, operated by Boeing 787-8s, will be Air India’s fifth destination from LGW, joining flights from Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Goa, and Kochi. With this addition, Air India will offer a total of 17X-weekly flights from LGW, complementing its 31X-weekly services from London Heathrow and 6X-weekly flights from Birmingham.

Starlux Airlines: Starting August 16, Taiwanese carrier Starlux Airlines will add Seattle to its network. The new route from Taipei Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) will operate three times per week with Airbus A350-900 aircraft. Starlux’s Seattle route will offer connections via Alaska Airlines and serve as the airline’s third nonstop U.S. destination.

  • Jetstar resumes its Perth-Singapore service with 3X-weekly Airbus A321neo flights starting August 1.
  • IndiGo expands its Abu Dhabi network with new routes from Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Mangalore, and Tiruchchirappalli.
  • Flydubai launches a 4X-weekly service to EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg from August 2.
