As diversity, equity, and inclusion continue to shape the travel industry, Albatros Expeditions is making strides to ensure that all travelers can partake in bucket-list experiences—like exploring Antarctica. In a groundbreaking move to cater to Muslim travelers, Albatros Expeditions has announced the first-ever halal-certified cruise to Antarctica, set to depart in January 2026.

The 10-day voyage, scheduled for January 3, 2026, will follow the “South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula” itinerary aboard the Ocean Albatros. This special expedition will feature a fully halal-certified kitchen, where no pork, alcohol, or other non-halal products will be served, ensuring that Muslim guests can enjoy their journey with peace of mind. In addition to the halal dining options, the cruise will offer Muslim-friendly amenities, such as women-only hours in the sauna, to further enhance the comfort and inclusivity of the experience.

CrescentRating, a globally recognized authority on halal travel, will provide the halal accreditation for the ship’s kitchen, guaranteeing that all food and beverage offerings meet strict halal standards. To maintain this certification, guests will also be prohibited from bringing outside food or beverages on board.

The concept for this halal cruise was developed by Rashidah Lim, Albatros Expeditions’ Southeast Asia business development manager and the only female Muslim expedition leader in the polar industry. Her vision and leadership have been instrumental in bringing this unique offering to fruition.

Jens Rasmussen, chief operating officer and board member of the Albatros Group, expressed his enthusiasm for this milestone, stating, “We have always been innovative, exploring new products and ideas inspired by our team, partners, and guests. This is an exciting milestone for us to launch the first halal-certified cruise to Antarctica. Big thanks to the team behind the project, and to Rashidah Lim for her great work in making this idea a reality.”

With this pioneering initiative, Albatros Expeditions is setting a new standard for inclusivity in expedition cruising, ensuring that more travelers can experience the wonders of Antarctica without compromising their cultural and religious values
