Qatar Airways Expands Heathrow Service with New Slots from Tarom

Qatar Airways is set to enhance its service to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) starting October 27, thanks to additional slots acquired from Romanian carrier Tarom. The Gulf airline will increase its flights from Doha’s Hamad International Airport (DOH) to LHR to eight per day, up from seven currently. The new schedule includes flights arriving at 2:05 p.m. and departing at 3:30 p.m.

This expansion will bring Qatar Airways’ total weekly flights to Heathrow to 56, the highest frequency of any Gulf carrier. The increase also underscores Qatar Airways’ strong partnership with London Heathrow and its strategic alliance with British Airways, which operates two daily flights to Doha.

The Oneworld alliance member will offer over 42,000 seats per week each way between DOH and LHR this winter, utilizing a fleet of Airbus A380, A350, and Boeing 777 aircraft.

The slot exchange with Tarom, managed by Airport Coordination Limited, will result in Tarom discontinuing its daily service between Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP) and LHR, with the final flight scheduled for October 26.

In addition to the London expansion, Qatar Airways will boost frequencies to Japan, the Maldives, and the U.S. this winter. From December 13, the airline will operate four daily flights to Malé, up from three. Miami service will increase to 12 weekly flights from December 16, up from ten. Tokyo Narita will see an increase to 11 weekly flights starting February 14, 2025, from the current daily service.
