American Airlines has unveiled an exciting expansion of its international routes, adding five new destinations across Italy, Greece, Spain, and Scotland, while also reviving several popular services. This announcement, made on September 5, 2024, marks a significant enhancement in the airline’s European network for summer 2025.

Starting May 23, 2025, American Airlines will introduce a new daily service connecting Philadelphia (PHL) with Milan (MXP). This route will be operated using the state-of-the-art Boeing 787-8 aircraft, known for its fuel efficiency and passenger comfort.

The expansion continues with a new daily flight from Miami (MIA) to Rome (FCO), beginning July 5, 2025. This addition brings the total number of American Airlines’ daily flights to Rome from U.S. airports to six, more than any other U.S. carrier in 2025.

Beginning June 5, 2025, American will also launch flights from Charlotte, North Carolina (CLT) to Athens, Greece (ATH), operating on the Boeing 777-200 aircraft. This new route complements the airline’s growing presence in Greece.

In Spain, American will start a daily service between Chicago (ORD) and Madrid (MAD) on March 30, 2025. Additionally, on May 23, 2025, the airline will introduce daily flights from Philadelphia (PHL) to Edinburgh, Scotland (EDI), catering to travelers seeking to explore the Scottish capital.

American Airlines is also reinstating several previously suspended routes. Starting May 5, 2025, the airline will resume its Philadelphia to Naples, Italy (NAP) service. Furthermore, flights between Philadelphia and Athens will restart on March 30, 2025. The Miami to Paris route and the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to Barcelona, Spain (BCN) route will also return from the same date.

In response to growing demand, American Airlines will boost capacity on four key routes to Asia starting summer 2025. The airline will offer daily services from DFW to both Tokyo Haneda (HND) and Tokyo Narita (NRT), as well as flights between DFW and Shanghai (PVG). Additionally, a new route will connect Los Angeles (LAX) with Tokyo Haneda.

Brian Znotins, Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning at American Airlines, highlighted the expansion’s significance: “We look forward to providing customers with more ways to visit their favorite destinations in Europe next summer. Our new routes and expanded services will offer more options and convenience for travelers across our network.”

With these new routes and service expansions, American Airlines aims to enhance connectivity between the U.S. and key European cities, while also supporting increased travel options and capacity across its global network.
