British Airways to End Southampton Airport Routes in Summer 2025

British Airways (BA) has announced it will discontinue all flights from Southampton Airport for the summer 2025 season. Operating under its BA CityFlyer subsidiary, the airline currently offers weekend services to destinations including Bergerac, France; Faro, Portugal; and Malaga and Palma de Mallorca in Spain. It also flies to Bergerac and Chambery, France, during the winter season.

BA confirmed that it will suspend all these routes next summer, offering affected passengers the option to rebook on alternative flights or receive a full refund. A spokesperson stated, “We are suspending our summer 2025 operations from Southampton Airport and contacting any affected customers with options.”

In September 2024, British Airways held a 3% share of Southampton’s market, ranking as the airport’s seventh-largest operator. EasyJet leads the market with 21.5%, followed by Blue Islands at 20.3% and BA’s sister carrier Aer Lingus at 18.1%.

Southampton Airport expressed disappointment over the route cancellations but remains in discussions with airlines to introduce new services. British Airways is currently the only airline offering nonstop flights to Bergerac and Malaga, though it competes with easyJet on Faro and Palma routes. Meanwhile, nearby Bournemouth Airport serves all four destinations through Ryanair, TUI Airways, and Jet2.com.

BA’s exit from Southampton comes shortly after the airport extended its runway by 164 meters, allowing larger aircraft like Boeing 737s and Airbus A320s to operate at full load.
