Emirates’ Airbus A350-900 Passes Tests, Ready for Upcoming Launch

Emirates Airlines’ inaugural Airbus A350-900 has been spotted at Toulouse-Blagnac Airport (TLS) as it undergoes crucial testing before joining the Dubai-based carrier later this month. This marks an exciting milestone for Emirates as it prepares to integrate the new aircraft into its fleet.

Plane enthusiast Eurospot (@cliper31) captured footage of the Emirates A350-900 performing a rejected takeoff, a vital test in the aircraft’s certification process. The video shows smoke rising from the wheels as the test pilot applies the brakes, causing the front of the aircraft to momentarily lift off the ground. “First Airbus A350-900 for Emirates and smoking rejected takeoff. Now ready for 1st flight,” Eurospot posted on X.

Airbus emphasizes the importance of safety during rejected takeoff procedures. If takeoff is aborted at V1 (the maximum speed at which a rejected takeoff can occur), the aircraft must be able to stop safely before reaching the end of the runway, without exceeding the brakes’ maximum energy absorption limits.

Emirates plans to officially introduce the A350-900 into service in September 2024, with a total of 10 aircraft expected to join the fleet by March 31, 2025. The specific A350-900 being tested is registered as F-WZGA and was first showcased in its full fuselage colors in April 2024.

Prior to this, in January 2024, the aircraft was seen in various stages of production, and by March, it was photographed with only the tail painted in Emirates colors. This gradual reveal has generated significant anticipation among aviation enthusiasts and the airline’s customers.

Emirates has a total of 65 Airbus A350-900 aircraft on order. The initial batch of 50 was part of an order announced at the Dubai Airshow in 2019. Four years later, the airline expanded its order by an additional 15 aircraft, underscoring its commitment to modernizing its fleet with the latest technology.
