FAA Clears United Airlines After Six-Month Safety Review
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has completed a six-month safety review of United Airlines, which was initiated in March 2024 following several high-profile safety incidents. The FAA aimed to ensure that United was adhering to safety regulations, identifying hazards, and managing risk effectively.
On October 2, 2024, the FAA announced that United Airlines passed the review without any significant safety issues. “The review did not identify any significant safety concerns. The FAA has concluded the enhanced oversight and approval process for United to add aircraft and services,” said an FAA spokesperson.
The review was triggered by incidents such as a Boeing 777-200 losing a tire after takeoff from San Francisco International Airport on March 7, 2024, and a Boeing 737 MAX 8 veering off the runway at Houston-George Bush Intercontinental Airport the following day.
United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby had addressed these incidents in March, acknowledging their seriousness and emphasizing that they had sharpened the airline’s focus on safety. Despite the unrelated nature of the incidents, Kirby reassured customers that safety remains a top priority for United Airlines.
With the FAA’s review now complete, United Airlines can proceed with adding aircraft and expanding services, with a renewed focus on maintaining safety standards.
